Tok Sen massage significantly improves upper trapezius thickness from muscle spasms and reduces pain perception and increases the pressure threshold pain among participants who suffer from shoulder pain
The possible mechanism of Tok Sen is an external vibration effect from hammering on the muscle that helps to unbound the myofascial and muscle fibers and release the muscle tension
From Jill Bursinski or Living Sabai Workbook July 2024
“Tok” is a verb, meaning “to hammer”, “Sen” in Thai medicinal practice refers to the lines that “energy” flow through. Today we know through science that this “energy” would refer to the nerves that line the webs of fascia all over you body. Tok Sen developed in Northern Thailand and is considered a part of the Thai Medicine tradition and had spiritual roots (lack of scientific knowledge). It is practiced by tribal healers, Thai Masters and now practitioners all over the world. It is considered a largely intuitive modality as the practitioner learns to feel the thickened, congested or sooth tissue layers with the traditional wooden instruments formed from indigenous trees that have been altered through lightening
