Spreading Love with NC-Grown Goodness + Sweet Construction Bakery + Brunch with Saltie Pepper

A SUNDAY [BREAKFAST] KIND OF LOVE
Right now, things might feel a little wonky—whether it’s the weather, politics, or the price of eggs. But one thing that can remain a steady comfort is good food, grown and made right here in North Carolina. No matter what’s happening in the world, we can always ground ourselves in the simple act of nourishing our bodies and sharing meals with the people we love.

Eating local isn’t just about freshness—it’s about connection. When we choose local food, we’re choosing better taste, higher nutritional value, and a more sustainable way of eating. We’re also choosing to keep our money within our communities, supporting small businesses like Rebus Works that make it easy to access North Carolina’s best ingredients. With every purchase, we’re investing in the farmers, artisans, and shop owners who make our local food scene thrive.

And what better way to show love—real, everyday love—than by making time to share a meal? We don’t need Valentine’s Day to remind us that gathering around the table is one of the most meaningful ways to connect. Whether it’s a slow Sunday brunch or a quick weekday breakfast, taking the time to nourish ourselves and our loved ones is a small but powerful act of care.

So let’s borrow a little poetic inspiration from Etta James and make every breakfast a Sunday kind of love—one filled with warmth, intention, and the best food our local community has to offer. Knowing, of course, that not every morning can realistically have the tenor of a relaxed, love-filled Sunday, we’ve selected a lovely grouping of NC-based products available at Rebus for the ultimate easy-yet-hearty breakfasts or snacks. They may not slow down time, but they will make your loved ones feel just that—loved.
PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT:
Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Jam
Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Jam $10.50
Taste the essence of the Blue Ridge Mountains with Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Jam, crafted from handpicked, sustainably grown blueberries in Lansing, NC. This is part of Shonna’s haul from her recent trip to the mountains, and it’s one that we’re always excited about. Made in small batches to preserve the bright, fresh flavor of peak-season berries, this jam is a true taste of Appalachian tradition.

Perfectly balanced between sweet and tart, it’s a delightful addition to your morning toast, biscuits, yogurt, or even a charcuterie board. We especially love it slathered on a toasted Michael’s Original English Muffin or one of Meg’s GF Buttermilk Biscuits. Add a pat of creamy Ashe County Cheese butter before the jam, and you’ve created the ultimate trifecta of local, easy, and heartwarming food—each bite a taste of North Carolina’s rich farmland.
Ramblin Poppy Breakfast Sausages
Ramblin Poppy Breakfast Sausages Variable Price
If you’ve ever wondered what makes sausage so irresistible, Google might point to factors like seasoning, fat content, texture, or cooking method. But after experiencing Ramblin Poppy’s sausages, we’d argue the secret lies in the locally-sourced, high-quality pork from happy, well-cared-for livestock. Handcrafted in West Jefferson, NC, these sausages blend regional pork with a perfect mix of spices, delivering a savory, satisfying breakfast every time.

One variety Shonna brought back from West Jefferson is their Breakfast Sausage. A breakfast lover’s dream, these sausages feature classic seasoning of sage, pepper, and a touch of red pepper for just the right flavorful kick. Whether you’re building a satisfying breakfast plate or adding extra flavor to your favorite morning dish, they strike the perfect balance of taste and satisfaction.

Rebus Works proudly carries a wide selection of Ramblin Poppy’s seasonal specialty sausages, bacon, and loose breakfast meat, bringing these local, artisanal delights straight to your table. Taste the craftsmanship of a family-owned butcher shop and savor the best of North Carolina.
Ashe County Cheese Black Label Cheddar
Ashe County Cheese Black Label Cheddar $4.49 - $9.20
Cheese makes for a wonderfully satisfying breakfast, offering a rich, flavorful start to your day with a perfect balance of protein and indulgence. For all those early birds on the go, we turn your attention to the bold, complex taste of Ashe County Cheese Black Label Aged White Cheddar. Aged to perfection, this handcrafted cheddar delivers a sharp, nutty flavor with a firm texture and smooth, buttery finish. Every bite is an unforgettable experience, showcasing the artistry of cheesemaking, and proudly crafted in the heart of North Carolina.

For something quick in the morning, we love pairing this Black Label cheese with Happy Dirt’s Pink Lady apples (also available at Rebus!). The crisp, tart sweetness of the Pink Lady complements the cheddar's sharp, nutty richness, creating a beautiful balance of flavors. Plus, Pink Lady apples are packed with fiber, which aids digestion, and vitamin C, which supports immune health. Their potassium content also promotes heart health, while antioxidants help protect your body’s cells. The apple's acidity cuts through the cheese's creaminess, while its subtle sweetness enhances the cheddar’s complexity. It’s a combination that works perfectly as a nosh, in salads, or on a cheese board—definitely a pairing to try!

HURRICANE HELENE RELIEF ON OUR WEBSITE
We are still reeling from the events that impacted our neighbors in the mountains, and we’re taking action by gathering GoFundMe campaigns and featuring them on our relief page. Many of the businesses we’ve reached out to that are still open have asked us to showcase their products, as they’re eager to attract autumn visitors. We’re also in the process of securing more of their offerings, so remember to think of Rebus when you begin your holiday shopping.
