The 2024 Herb of The Year - Yarrow
Introducing Yarrow:
Yarrow is a multi-purpose species that has been cultivated for thousands of years! With many medicinal properties, it's fully edible, and has benefits that extend to the home and garden.

Yarrow, belonging to the aster family, shares a close kinship with chrysanthemums and chamomile. Thriving in sunny and warm environments, it is commonly found in meadows, along roadsides, and on dry, sunlit slopes. The plant features a simple, upright, and hairy stem, usually not exceeding 3 feet in height. Yarrow graces the landscape with its white blooms from June to September, while mountainous regions may display pink or pale purple flowers. Its petals form dense clusters in flattened arrangements, resembling feathers, and the plant exhibits rapid spreading. Notably, there is considerable genetic variation in the beneficial properties of this versatile plant.
Herb Of The Month - Damiana
This shrub native to Southwest Texas in the U.S. and Central America, South America, and Mexico has a long history of use as an aphrodisiac. The leaves have traditionally been made into a tea and incense, which was used by native people of Central and South America for its relaxing effects. Spanish missionaries first recorded that the Mexican Indians drank Damiana tea mixed with sugar for use as an aphrodisiac.

This small, low growing yellow flower, is found in South up through Central and lower North America, and the Caribbean. It had long been used prior to the arrival of Europeans for bladder and urinary issues. Today, it is used due to its’ purported effects as an aphrodisiac, possible hallucinogen, weight loss, and anti-depressant...

Fun Fact:
It is also an ingredient in a traditional Mexican Liqueur, which is sometimes used as a substitute for Triple Sec in Margaritas.
