Hello All 💕
I am sending this newsletter slightly (gasp!) EARLY ! I know, this is shocking behavior for me, and I want to warn you, don't get used to it.. It's needed this time because my wild niece's 2nd birthday is February 1, which is the official date of Imbolc. So, I will occupied that day. This will be a brief one.. I also wanted to give another shout out to the ketamine-assisted therapy group starting next week (last chance to register!) and the Tapping Into Your Desire group, starting the week of February 10. Details for both on the flyers below.
Imbolc is celebrated as the halfway point between the Yule sabbat (Winter Solstice), and Ostara (the Spring or Vernal Equinox). It can be considered a "sleepy sabbat," since not terribly much is happening, and we are still in the depths of winter. It has been frigidly cold lately where I live in Santa Cruz, (well, California coast cold... we're pretty spoiled here), but the days are getting longer and the first fresh shoots of spring are beginning to appear.
In Celtic traditions, Imbolc is associated with the goddess Brigid. She has many names, including the Goddess of the Eternal Flame, and the Goddess of the Sacred Well. In the indigenous mythology, she is the embodiment of the triple goddess; three sisters all named Brigid. Goddess of the Hearth Fire, Goddess of the Forge Fire, and Goddess of the Creative / Transforming Fire, this triple aspected figure resides over poetry and inspiration, change, wisdom, healing, creativity, prophecy, water, and childbirth.
The Lunar New Year is also upon us, as we enter the Year of the Snake. This is the Chinese New Year, the date of which changes in alignment with the year's first new moon. The Year of the Snake is associated with wisdom, transformation, and intuition. I was born in the Year of the Monkey, but I feel particularly drawn to snake imagery and symbolism, including fertility, creativity, rebirth, and having the medicine we need within us. I have a snake on my business logo, lots of snake jewelry, and one tattooed on my body 🐍💥
We are entering a wild time, my friends. Let's stick together, and continue to take good care of ourselves and of each other, whatever that looks like for each of us. Sending you all so much love.
