Mardi Gras Around the World
Wine Dinner

Wednesday February 22, 2023!

Our next wine dinner is Mardi Gras around the world. We will travel to Venice, New Orleans, Rio and finish in Nice, France. Zoe will be bringing lovely wines, a Soave from Italy, a Zinfandel from Carmel and a Malbec from Argentina.

We will be making fantastic food to match the wines. Starting with shrimp with polenta, a gumbo and a Brazilian beef dish with rice. We will finish with a King Cake.
The picture below is of Zoe and her bestie celebrating Carnivale in Venice and few years back.

Venice
Venetian Shrimp with Polenta

Wine-Tenuta Santa Maria Lepiga Soave DOC, Veneto

“A pleasant surprise to the palate with both freshness and depth, giving the wine an intriguing and balanced structure. Intense straw-yellow color. At the nose, a complex aroma with hints of exotic and summer fruits, pears, peaches, herbs, almonds, and a generous minerality, with traces of toasted vanilla. The taste is rich and compact, sustained by freshness, persistent and with a distinct flavor that actually intensifies the softness."

New Orleans
Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Corn Bread

Wine-Joullian Zinfandel Carmel Valley

“The wines dark cherry color, with a light garnet rim. Aromatic rose petal, blackberry, cola, and licorice scents are enhanced by a touch of cedar and black peppercorn. Ripe, fruity, black raspberry, plum, and rhubarb flavors are heightened by notes of anise seed, black truffle, and toasty oak. Expect perfumed forward fruit thru 2020, then a deeper, almost Gigondas-like wine in the decade to follow.”

Rio de Janeiro
Barreado
(Brazilian Beef Stew)
Rice

Wine-Domaine Bousquet Malbec, Argentina

“Deep Violet color. On the nose, ground-mushrooms, and red berries aromas. Notes of violet prune and spices. Medium body with soft and silky tannins and a flavorful finish.”

France
King Cake
