Helix Herald August 26th <Back to School Drive Details Inside>

N.L.K.S is a nonprofit that has been serving the Chicagoland area for over 17 years. Based in the Austin neighborhood, N.L.K.S. works in violence prevention, community forums, gang interventions and back to school efforts, all with a focus on mental health.

With the school year starting soon for CPS we are hosting a supply drive for the individuals and families served by N.L.K.S. on the Westside of Chicago. We are going to collect supplies on September 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th for distribution on September 5th in Austin! NLKS will be hosting a community barbecue to provide meals, school supplies, and other supplies for the community. Please bring donations to Helix Cafe @ 6237 N Clark St any of dates above between 10am and 5pm.

We are still running our coffee delivery program every week. We know there are many options available, so we sincerely appreciate your continued support! We’ve lost a few customers for our stance on CPAC and our commitment to pushing organizations we work with to take tangible action on anti-racism rather than just using Black Lives Matter as a brand. We are so proud of the community of activists and organizers that used to hang out and work in the Cafe. We miss you all and love seeing you all speak truth to power!

Through the end of October $1 from each bag of coffee sold and 75% of all tips will go to directly New Life Knew Solutions.

Summer Internship Wrapping Up

We have wrapped up our summer internship. Our amazing High School participants worked on college research, career pathway development and business project teams. The students analyzed financial performance at the cafe, audited and restructured helixchicago.com, and performed market research on the coffee industry. The students of Chicago are amazing, brilliant leaders and we cannot wait to see what impacts all of our alumni have in the world.
