OPENING FRIDAY, AUGUST 2 FROM 6-8pm
In our intricate and interconnected society, the expectations placed upon us greatly influence the roles we take on and the aspects of ourselves that we present to the world. For women, these societal demands are further complicated by historical stereotypes and prejudices. This particular body of artwork incorporates shattered fragments of mirrors alongside vintage mugshots of women. The broken mirrors distort the images, inviting viewers to see themselves reflected within the work. Through a blend of three-dimensional elements and transparent images, the artwork captures the contrast between what is visible and what remains hidden due to societal norms. It prompts us to question how different we truly are from these individuals and how easily their stories could mirror our own.
