Our latest news

Real Food extends a Big Thank You to subscriber Jeandrea Hanson for recommending Real Food to over 225 friends on Facebook, and as a result, we have grown our clientele substantially! Jeandrea has also suggested we pass on the Yum app where you can type in items you have on hand and it will pull up many recipes from which to choose. Jeandrea cooks from scratch daily now that she is home and the app gives you options to narrow down prep time, an ingredient list and more. Jeandrea has posted photos of the meals made from Real Food deliveries—homemade applesauce, spaghetti sauce, Irish potato patties, orange-cranberry sauce, ham & potato soup, orange pear crepes, raspberry walnut salad—to name just a few! The link is provided below. Real Food is grateful for Jeandrea’s support and enthusiasm!

“Peru has a thriving agricultural economy. In 2018, Equal Exchange launched its Peruvian avocado program in partnership with LaGrama, a Peruvian company providing essential services to small scale farmers in Peru. Equal Exchange saw the opportunity to bring in a Peruvian program during the summer months, when supply of organic, Fair Trade Mexican avocados is fairly limited. More importantly, Equal Exchange’s mission has always been to create space for small farmers in the global marketplace.” The avocados in your delivery this week were sourced in Peru by the Equal Exchange program. There is a link below for more information.

ASIAN COLESLAW
Savoy cabbage is a very good source of vitamin C which protects skin integrity, heals wounds, protects cells from premature ageing due to free radicals, and enhances immune system activity. Savoy varieties are milder-flavored than regular green cabbage, but the two can be used interchangeably in recipes.

½ cup thinly sliced green onions
4 cups thinly sliced savoy cabbage (about ½ head)
3 T rice vinegar
2 T grapeseed oil or peanut oil
1 T peeled fresh ginger, minced
1 teas. sugar
1 T oriental sesame oil
salt & pepper
Stir sesame seeds in dry skillet over medium heat until golden. Combine cabbage & onion in a bowl. Combine remaining ingredients, then add to cabbage mixture. Toss. Cover & refrigerate. Toss before serving, sprinkle with seeds. Serves 4.

THE FARM OF MINNESOTA
Daniel Moe
24618 State Hwy. 15 No
Hutchinson, MN 55350

The story of The Farm started with my maternal grandfather, who began farming this land outside of Hutchinson, Minnesota in 1945, and spent the next 40 years of his life raising livestock and crops here. In the late 1960's, I was blessed to spend a summer here with my grandfather, working this soil. It is here that I fell in love with farming, and in 2000, I was again called home to The Farm. We spent the next few years in small-scale trials and tests. In 2009, we ramped into the market with the introduction of a new Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, and organic certification was filed in 2014. We take a lot of pride in the fruits and vegetables we grow. A specialty crop we are very excited about is our plantings of Elderberries. We have added season extension buildings and have many new things to come and see

The Farm provides in-season fresh fruits and vegetables. Our produce is available through CSA shares, at the farm, local coops and at the local farmers markets in and around the greater Twin Cities area. We are thrilled to also be part of a group of farmers that provide fresh vegetables and fruit to Real Food in Willmar for their weekly subscribers. We're using today's knowledge with yesterday's passion to grow nutritious food for the community.
A big shout-out to Nancy Johnson, Real Food Board Secretary, and abundantly-talented volunteer.  Nancy researches your weekly recipes using some of the bounty bag ingredients and she is providing 95% of the content of this BLOG!  Thank you for all you do to support local farmers who provide the best food we can get, right here in West Central Minnesota.
FYI:   Do you know that Real Food Delivery has routes East to Grove City, West to Morris, North to Belgrade and South to Olivia--plus our subscribers who choose to pick up their weekly groceries at our contact-less home at 414 Becker Avenue SW in downtown Willmar.
