Happy Early Mabon!Β
Β Mabon is also known as the Fall Equinox, when the halves of the earth trade their light and the earth experiences equal illumination. In the Northern Hemisphere, this means the days going forward will get shorter, with decreasing hours of daylight headed toward the Winter Solstice in December (with spooky Samhain to celebrate on the way!).
Mabon is a time to time harvest the final fruits of summer and plan for the winter. In the old days, this meant canning, pickling, and other food and supply preserving practices. In today's world, when food and supplies from all seasons and all over the planet are available at our local grocery store, folks who honor Mabon could begin an internal inward shift. This might look like taking an inventory of what to release in the coming months: the fast and busy social schedule of the summer, old patterns or energy that no longer serve us, or anything else we would like to let go of.
As I foretold in my last newsletter, I have survived the travel to, madness of, and return from Burning Man. This Burn was like no other for me, spent mostly alone, with lots and lots of (emotional) medicine to consider. As difficult a Burn as any, but in a different way, and with less fun and wonder. The Universe seems to keep telling me - slow down, stop pushing, accept, alchemize. My internal gas pedal seems to have a brick on it. This can look and feel like overscheduling, taking on too much, invasive, racing thoughts, all resulting in general exhaustion.Β
My lessons continue to be: slowing down, asking for help, learning to rely on others, and trusting the beauty of interdependence. What lessons are you tending, moving into the fall and winter?
